Excite
Hot newcomer from Architext Software to the Web Search-o-Rama. Claims to have a database of over one million frequently updated Web documents, plus the past two weeks of Usenet News and some classifieds thrown in for spice. Also features NetReviews: pundits from the world of print telling us what's hot and what's not. Check it out for yourself and decide.
Harvest
Integrated set of tools to gather, extract, organize, search, cache, and replicate information across the Internet. This new multi-purpose engine from the Harvest Gatherers at the University of Colorado is definitely one to watch (provided they don't all have to get back to their dissertations).
InfoSeek
One of the easiest ways to search the Web.
Lycos Search Engine
If you're looking for specific topics, this is the place to go. Very fast and sophisticated searching.
WebCrawler
America Online has made this one popular, but Lycos and InfoSeek are much better.

The Argus Clearinghouse
Changed the name and setup their own server. Useful guide to Internet resources.
EINet Galaxy
A huge database of information collected from the Internet and added to by the folks at EINet. There is a subject-oriented index and you can also query the database by keyword.
Yahoo - A Guide to WWW
Currently the most popular place to start your Web Browsing.
The Magellan Internet Directory
A newcomer to the Web List sweepstakes. Its attractive interface and well-wrought categories make it a serious competitor to Yahoo.
Point
Another newcomer worth watching. By rating each site they're attempting to winnow the wheat from all the chaff out there on the Web. We wish them luck.
World-Wide Web Virtual Library: Subject Catalogue
Even more comprehensive than Yahoo. Uses different subject headings.
LOGO The Whole Internet Catalog
Still the most literate book about the Internet. Very good selection of sites.

New Riders Publishing WWW Yellow Pages
Bills itself as the Ultimate Web Reference. Hyberbole aside, it is much more extensive than the print version and includes more searchable categories than most web indexes.
